A gathering of Nigeria’s political, business and high-society figures marked the traditional wedding of Oluwaseun (Seun) Awolowo, daughter of Prince Segun Awolowo, and Akintoye Bode-Kayode in Lagos.Seun wore a silver and lavender Deola Sagoe asooke design.
The April 22, 2019 celebration attracted prominent personalities from Nigeria and Ghana, including billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, Ghana’s First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Dapo Abiodun, former Ogun State governor Olusegun Osoba and his wife, Aderinsola, Dele Momodu and Erelu Abiola Dosunmu.
Other notable guests included former governors, political associates, business leaders and members of the Awolowo and Kayode families. The occasion brought together influential figures from different generations and across the two countries.
Among those who shared photographs from the celebration was Dapo Abiodun, who was then governor-elect of Ogun State.
He wrote:
“Yesterday, I graced the traditional wedding ceremony of Seun, the daughter of Mr. Segun Awolowo @segunawo7 and Mr. Akintoye Kayode, in Lagos. I was accompanied to the event by my dear wife, Her Excellency, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun.”
His post offered a glimpse into the celebration and documented his attendance alongside his wife, Bamidele Abiodun.
The guest list reflected the Awolowo family's longstanding connections across Nigerian public life.
Femi Otedola represented the business community, while Dele Momodu was among the media and social figures present. Political personalities included Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was also Lagos State governor-elect at the time, Dapo Abiodun, and former Ogun State governor Olusegun Osoba, who attended with his wife.
Ghana’s First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, also attended, giving the celebration a notable international dimension.
Seun is the daughter of Prince Segun Awolowo, grandson of the late Nigerian statesman Chief Obafemi Awolowo. She married Akintoye Bode-Kayode, popularly known as Toye, whose family background was also noted in contemporary coverage of the wedding.
The traditional ceremony took place at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. The couple later celebrated their white wedding in France at the Château de Vallery in May 2019.
