Jennifer Lopez, an American music artist, has disclosed that she and her actor husband, Ben Affleck, did not break their relationship on the day they postponed their 2003 wedding.
During an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, the singer-songwriter confessed that, while their decision to cancel the wedding may have signalled difficulties in their relationship, they remained together for some time afterward, attempting to salvage their bond.
She also said that the wedding postponement caused her and Ben to question “what our relationship was and where it was going,” and that despite knowing she wanted to be with him forever, she thought their marriage wouldn’t last the distance.
Lopez also stated that they were not “mature” enough to make the relationship work despite their constant tries. She also revealed that they were under the assumption that people break up when “things get tough,” so they parted ways.
The singer went on to say that they both needed to find love and start families with other people before they could truly work on being a relationship again.
Lopez stated that she and Ben both felt more confidence in themselves as individuals when they reconnected, and this time the relationship appears to be lasting, with the two planning to marry in 2022.
