Newlyweds Pick Last Name By Flipping Coin At Altar

While it is customary for married women to take their husband's surname, times are changing.

Some choose the double-barrelled option, while others prefer to keep the name they were given at birth.

And, in the name of fairness, one couple opted to leave their surname choice to chance.

Following their vows, the newlyweds flipped a coin to determine whether they would take the bride or groom's last name.

One of their wedding guests captured the occasion and uploaded the video to TikTok, calling it her "favorite new wedding tradition."

The officiator throws the coin into the air and catches it on the back of his hand as both Collin and Pearl face the guests.

He then announces: “I present to you Mr and Mrs Hansen!”

The crowd cheered and the couple thanked them for their blessing with big smiles on their faces.

Viewers commented to share some of the wildest wedding traditions they’d seen.

One said: “I know a couple whose families had a paintball match to decide! Winning side determined the last name.”

A second wrote: “I took my husband’s because mine was boring. That was 100% of the thought put into the decision.”

“This is about to start a new norm,” a third added while a fourth shared: “I’m just picking whoever is first alphabetically.”
