Anita Adetoye, a.k.a. Anita Brows, has said that she is unable to date anyone who is in a lower tax category.
In a podcast with media personality Stephanie Coker, the cosmetics artist and ex-wife of actor Emmanuel Ikubese (Former Mr. Nigeria) made this claim.
She talked of a fake relationship she previously had with a man she believed to be her age.
Anita went on to say that successful women are the ones that most Nigerian guys seek since they seem to be doing well for themselves.
She continued by saying that many Nigerian guys are skilled at "padding things up" to the point where a woman can start dating them and then fall in love with them.
She said,
“Being a Nigerian, I have learnt that a lot of men go after women that look like they are doing well and her making more. Men aspire to be with women like that, even though they are doing well themselves. Nigerian men know how to package themselves to make you fall for them.”
According to her, love alone was not enough reason to enter a relationship. She said:
“You can’t really use love to enter a relationship. I guess I am speaking from experience.”
While addressing a question on whether she can date a guy below her tax bracket, she responded;
“Anything below, I can’t really do that anymore. I feel like I have dated someone because they were levelling up in their life but it was just facade. Yea, I cannot.”
Many believed that Anita was hinting at the cause of her marital break-up.
