In an Abuja divorce suit, Taiwo Oyebanjo, the younger sister of singer Dapo "D'Banj" Oyebanjo and the ex-wife of OAP Dotun Kayode, was found guilty of contempt of court and could face prison time. On Monday, October 23, a high court in Dukpa, Abuja, found Taiwo Oyebanjo guilty of disobeying the court's ruling regarding the couple's shared custody of their children. She faces a 30-day deadline to pay a N200,000 fine, failing which she could spend time in jail. Remember that after Dotun applied for shared custody of the children in April 2022, the court granted him and his estranged wife joint custody of the children in suit No. GWD/ PET/25/21.
Both parties initially complied, but Taiwo denied Dotun access to their children since December 2022. Dotun sought legal redress and also resorted to publicising their issues on social media. Dotun also alleged on social media that his ex-wife had flown his two daughters out of Nigeria since June 2023, making it impossible for him to see them. On Monday Oct. 23, the court ruled and found Taiwo guilty of disobeying the order of the court, declaring that her refusal to allow Dotun Kayode access and custody of the children in December 2022 was disobedience to the Order of the Court and ordered that she pays the sum of N200,000 within 30days or risk jail term until the fine is paid. Taiwo was absent in court at the time judgement was delivered.
