Nollywood actress, Kiitan Bukola has shared insights on her career, personal growth, and why she’s now open to marriage.
In November 2022, the Yoruba actress had announced her engagement on her Instagram page. Unfortunately, the couple never got to walk down the aisle as they parted ways over undisclosed reasons.
However, in an interview with her colleague, Debbie Shokoya in 2024, Kiitan recalled how she caught her fiancé with another woman when he was sick.
She went further to reveal her fears about getting married, and what she hopes to find in a partner. She said her fear stems from her desire to provide her children with a stable and loving home, which she never had.
Fast forward to 2026, the movie star disclosed to PUNCH that she’s now open to marriage. In her words:
“I am no longer scared of marriage. I believe everyone has their own timing. I love family, and I see marriage as a beautiful journey when built on mutual respect and self-awareness. Personal growth is key before committing to such a lifelong partnership.”
What character or role have you played that best represents the real Kiitan Bukola?
I would say the character that best represents me is a blend of being selfless, a go-getter, a lane minder, and a prayer warrior. These are qualities I carry, not just on screen but in real life. I believe in giving my best to every project, supporting others, and staying spiritually grounded.
These traits influence how I approach my career and relate with people off-screen. Being empathetic helps me collaborate better; being a go-getter pushes me to pursue opportunities with determination; and staying in my lane keeps me focused on my craft without unnecessary distractions.
Above all, prayer keeps me centered and helps me navigate the pressures of the industry.
What are some of the most interesting challenges you’ve faced in your career?
One of the most memorable experiences was acting alongside legends I grew up watching. It was intimidating at first, but I reminded myself that they were professionals just like me.
Instead of shrinking, I embraced the opportunity, observed closely, learnt, and gave my best. That experience taught me confidence and the importance of confronting fear.
Another major challenge came with transitioning into filmmaking. Acting and producing require different skill sets—managing a crew, planning schedules, and overseeing storytelling. It was demanding but rewarding, and it reinforced the value of preparation, patience, and staying true to one’s vision.
Have you always been passionate about acting?
Yes, acting has been a passion since childhood. I participated in school plays and felt a deep sense of fulfilment each time I performed. Even then, it was more than a hobby; I was learning how to embody characters and express emotions.
I was also fascinated by storytelling—how films could move people, teach lessons, and spark conversations. That curiosity led me to study acting formally, and eventually, to a professional career. Loving what you do, I believe, is the foundation of excellence.
As a filmmaker and producer, how do you choose the stories you bring to life?ers from what I observe around me. I’m drawn to stories that educate, inspire, and provoke thought. Filmmaking goes beyond entertainment; it’s about impact and legacy.
I look for stories that are timeless, relatable, and emotionally engaging. Every project must feel meaningful and have the potential to positively influence its audience.
Do you feel pressure to constantly reinvent yourself?
Not at all. I don’t see my career as a race or competition. I work at my own pace and prioritize quality over quantity. Reinvention should come from personal growth, not external pressure.
I focus on improving my craft, exploring new genres, and choosing roles that challenge me. That way, each project feels authentic and purposeful.
How do you draw boundaries with intimacy scenes in Nollywood?
Acting is make-believe, but I have firm boundaries. I won’t do anything pornographic or expose myself in ways that make me uncomfortable.
That’s why reading scripts thoroughly is crucial—it allows me to assess what I’m comfortable with and communicate clearly.
Understanding the purpose of a scene helps me approach it professionally without compromising my values. Comfort and professionalism must go hand in hand.
