Yvonne Jegede Describes Marriage As ‘Overrated’ As She Reveals Reason She’s Not Seeking Remarriage

Yvonne Jegede has disclosed that she is not actively seeking to remarry.

The mother of one, in a recent interview with Naija FM Lagos, described marriage as “overrated,” citing instances where long-term couples break up shortly after tying the knot.

She stated that a couple could date for years without issues. However, once married, they begin having problems due to marital expectations.

However, she stated that she’s open to remarriage but isn’t actively seeking it, emphasising that she’s learned not to say “never.”

She said:

“I think marriage is overrated. I have seen a lot of people who dated for 10 to 15 years, got married, and then broke up within 2 to 3 years. Sometimes, you wonder why such couples didn’t just remain unmarried. Because when they add the marriage tag, a lot of intolerance gets in the way.”

Yvonne went on the state that while she is not shutting the door completely on marriage, she has learned not to force it or place it at the centre of her happiness.

“If it comes, but I’m not looking for it. I have learned not to say never,” she noted.

She also talked about how people become intolerant after getting married. She added:

“A lot of intolerance dey. The wife will be claiming her rights, the husband will do the same.”

Yvonne suggested everybody should do what makes them happy. The single mum stated: happy and what works for you. And if you find the person you like, make una just dey.”

The Nollywood star suggested that cohabiting might be a better option, allowing couples to avoid the added pressures that come with marriage.

“I think it is better to find who you love and just cohabit with them,” she added.

The actress was previously married to actor and film producer Olakunle ‘Abounce’ Fawole, but the marriage ended in 2019, less than a year after it began. The union produced a son.
